Visual Monkey was privileged to be invited by Pleasant Company to create for Vivid Sydney 2024, illuminating the iconic sails of the Sydney Opera House. Being part of what is widely considered the pinnacle of the Vivid program each year was an extraordinary experience.
Collaborating with visionary Creative Director Christian Heinrich and the immensely talented artist Julia Gutman was truly inspiring. Their creativity and passion were integral to the project's success.
It was a pleasure to work alongside fellow animator Julian Reinhold and the technical genius Phil Sullivan on this remarkable adventure. We are proud to have played a key role in bringing this project to life.

House of Naturalia is an animated light projection that takes the shape and structures of Barangaroo House and existing plants and re-imagines a world in which the plants take over the building, winning the battle against the civilization. House of Naturalia is hope for the future.
Green moss snakes down like a carpet, covering the building. Small green tendrils begin to appear. Slowly they unfurl, opening into new green shoots and leaves begin to grow. Buds appear, gently opening into blossoms of colourful flowers.
Nature takes over. Butterflies dart in and out of the flowers. Everywhere you look, there is an explosion of colour, with wildflowers of all shapes and sizes carpeting the landscape.
A waterfall grows and cascades down transforming the building into a wall of water. We move below the waterfall to reveal an underwater world full of life and colour. Sunlight filters through the water, illuminating schools of fish taking over the façade.

Visual Monkey was very excited to work with Yakkazoo and Revolution 360 on a NETFLIX activation for a new series premiere of Tidelands. The client required a realistic whirlpool to be printed out at 50 mts x 13 mts with the Tidelands title and NETFLIX logo to be floating in the water.
The print was then laid out on the floor of the pool at Bondi Icebergs when empty and then refilled. The final rendered frame from 3D took 15 hours to render. Although it was a challenging project Visual Monkey was very proud of the final result. Check out the video for behind the scenes footage.
Visual Monkey is thrilled that Badu Gili 2023 has been recognized as a finalist in this year's AEAF Awards! In collaboration with Yarnology, we crafted striking projections for the Sydney Opera House, Biennale, and Cartier Foundation in late 2023. It was both an honor and a privilege to work alongside renowned artists Gail Mabo and Nikau Hindin, transforming their powerful artworks into dynamic, vibrant projections across the iconic sails of the Sydney Opera House.
A soundscape accompanies the animation, with powerful music by Nigel Westlake supporting Mabo's work, and Te Kahureremoa Taumata (Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Tūwharetoa) and Te Kuru o te Marama Dewes (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Rangitihi) complementing Hindin’s.
